The Active Minds Story

Changing the Conversation Around Mental Health

Active Minds was started by Alison Malmon, following the suicide of her older and only brother, Brian, in 2000. Alison realized that mental health was often ignored on college campuses and sought to make sure students could find the community and help they needed. Active Minds became a 501(c)3 organization in late 2003 and grew from its start on the University of Pennsylvania campus to a network of 500+ dedicated student chapters and a nationally recognized organization.
